River Trace is reissuing VISA® Debit Cards with EMV Chip Technology. EMV chips provide a greater level of security against fraud when making purchases at chip-activated card readers or authorized ATMs. VISA® credit cards with EMV Chip Technology will be reissued in the Fall, 2016.
Big protection from a tiny chip.
Sometimes called "chip cards," EMV Cards—which stands for Europay®, MasterCard® and VISA®, the three companies that created the standard—have been used widely in Europe and the rest of the world with great success.
Frequently Asked Questions
When is the new chip card required?
There is not a date when a chip card will be required. You will start to see merchants installing terminals that can accept both chip cards as well as the magnetic stripe cards you are used to.
When will RiverTrace offer chip cards?
We are already working with Visa and have begun reissuing debit chip cards for members in the Spring, 2016. Credit Cards will begin in the Fall 2016.
Will my transactions go through if I don’t have a chip card?
Yes. Merchants who accept chip cards will also be set up to accept magnetic stripe cards.
Is there any change in my liability for fraudulent transactions on my account?
No. As always, you are not liable for fraudulent transactions on your account. Please contact us right away at (877) 849-5533 if you suspect fraud on your account.
I heard there was a liability shift as of October 2015, is that true?
The liability shift is between merchants and financial institutions and will have no impact on how you use your card.
